A total of 439 families, comprising 2,071 people, returned to the country from neighbouring Iran and Pakistan in a single day, an official said on Saturday.

Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), shared a report of the High Commission for Addressing Afghan Refugees’ Problems on his X account.

According to the report, 367 families, comprising 1,805 people, returned to Afghanistan and were registered through the Torkham crossing.

The commission said 318 families, comprising 2,308 people, were transported from Torkham to Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman and Kabul provinces, with 1.67 million afghanis provided to cover their transport costs.

It added that a total of 3.486 million afghanis in cash assistance was provided to 409 families at Torkham, while healthcare and telecommunications services were also provided at the Omari camp.

Meanwhile, 13 families, comprising 55 people, returned to Afghanistan through the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar province.

Officials said 14 families, comprising 50 people, were transported to various provinces, with more than 104,000 afghanis provided to cover their transport costs.

The commission added that a total of 114,000 afghanis was provided to 14 families at Spin Boldak, while food, healthcare and telecommunications services were also provided.

The report noted that 42 families, comprising 164 people, returned through Pul-i-Abresham in Nimroz province. In addition, 1,017 individual travellers also returned.

A total of 42,000 afghanis in cash assistance was provided to five families.

Similarly, 17 families, comprising 47 people, returned through the Islam Qala border crossing in Herat province, while a total of 102,000 afghanis was provided to 17 families.

The Transport and Transfer Committee in Kabul also transported 36 families, comprising 169 people, to various provinces and provided them with 147,600 afghanis to cover their transport costs.

Overall, 439 families, comprising 2,071 people, returned to Afghanistan, while 368 families, comprising 2,527 people, were transported to various provinces. Assistance was provided to 445 families, and 363 SIM cards from telecommunications networks were distributed, the commission concluded.
