Clashes Between Kuchi Nomads and Residents in Behsud, Maidan Wardak; Four Residents Injured

According to the sources, the first clash occurred two days ago. In the incident, four Kuchi men allegedly beat a local resident named Rajab Ali with stones and sticks, injuring him. During the altercation, one of the Kuchi men also had a tooth broken.

One source said that the commission responsible for resolving disputes between Kuchi nomads and settled residents found Rajab Ali at fault and ordered him to pay 80,000 afghanis in compensation to the Kuchi side.

Sources also reported another clash in the Siah Sang area of Behsud’s First District. According to them, three residents of the area were beaten by Kuchi nomads and suffered head injuries.

Based on information provided by the sources, the dispute-resolution commission in this case fined the Kuchi side and ordered them to pay 120,000 afghanis in compensation to the residents of Siah Sang.

The clashes took place during the seasonal return of Kuchi nomads from Afghanistan’s central regions.

Local residents of Behsud say that, while travelling through the area, Kuchi nomads sometimes enter their farms and grazing lands, causing damage to agricultural fields and pastures. According to the sources, disputes over land and grazing areas are among the factors behind repeated clashes between the two sides.

As of the time of publication, Taliban officials in Maidan Wardak had not commented on the two incidents or on the decisions made by the commission responsible for resolving disputes between Kuchi nomads and settled residents.
