background: transparent;">عبدالولی شیخ احمد نخست وزیر سومالی این حمله را به شدت محکوم کرد و گفت این حمله هیچ هدفی جز کشتار مردم بی گناه نداشت و چنین حملاتی در واقع ماهیت نفرت انگیز عاملان آن را نشان می دهد.یک فرمانده دیگر پلیس کنیا نیز اظهار داشت که در جریان این حمله در حالی که ساکنان شهر مشغول تماشای مسابقه فوتبال در هتلی در این شهر بودند افراد مسلح کسانی را که داخل هتل بودند بیرون کشیده و ضمن خارج کردن زنان مردان را هدف آتش قرار می‌دادند. همچنین براساس گزارش‌ها عاملان حمله به زنانی که کنار ایستاده بودند گفتند که این سزای اقداماتی است که سربازان کنیا در سومالی علیه مردان سومالیایی انجام دادند.این حمله در شهر کوچک مپکتونی که در فاصله 20 کیلومتری جنوب غرب شهر توریستی لامو قرار دارد اتفاق افتاد. به گفته مرکز عملیات‌های مربوط به فجایع ملی در کنیا کمی پس از گزارش شدن این حمله، هواپیماهای تجسس ارتش به پرواز درآمدند.
