He issued the call at the inauguration ceremony of the Badr 50-bed hospital in southeastern Khost province, which was built by a Turkish businessman at a cost of around one million US dollars.

Qari Zahir Waqas, head of the hospital, said the facility was built on the Ring Road west of Khost city with an investment of around $1 million.

He said the hospital would provide healthcare services in seven departments at a 50 percent discount.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Haqqani said some Afghans travelled abroad even for treatment of ordinary illnesses because they lacked confidence in domestic healthcare facilities.

He urged doctors and healthcare officials to make greater efforts to improve the quality of medical services, gain public trust and make healthcare facilities self-sufficient.

Haqqani noted that Afghanistan was moving towards reconstruction after years of challenges, poverty and other difficulties. He called on Afghans to work towards self-reliance in healthcare, the economy, industry and other sectors.

He also called on the international community not to link humanitarian and charitable assistance to political issues and to increase support for Afghanistan’s healthcare, education and other essential sectors.

The interior minister said Afghans sought relations with the international community based on mutual respect and cooperation rather than hostility. He urged the international community to redirect resources previously spent on war towards Afghanistan’s reconstruction and humanitarian needs.

He added that Afghanistan was now moving towards reconstruction, brotherhood and shared interests and wanted relations with the international community based on mutual respect and cooperation.
