Local sources said today, Sunday, August 23, that the young man, identified as “Muslim,” was killed by his father over what was described as “disobedience, not working, and inappropriate behavior.”
According to the sources, the incident occurred in the 13th district of Kandahar city. The father allegedly struck his son on the head with an iron rod, resulting in Muslim’s death.
No further details about the killing are currently available.
The incident comes as unemployment, economic difficulties, and social pressures have placed many families in Afghanistan under severe strain. Under such circumstances, family disputes over employment, income, financial responsibilities, and the behavior of family members can escalate into serious tensions and, in some cases, violence.
The killing has once again raised questions about violence within families and the lack of effective mechanisms to prevent and address domestic disputes in Afghanistan, particularly as many families struggle with poverty, unemployment, and psychological and economic pressures.
