Reuters, citing Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov, reported that the phone call late Tuesday lasted about an hour. Putin also supported Trump’s position, Ushakov said.
Ushakov said Putin discussed steps the United States could take to help end the war and shared his assessment of the battlefield situation with Trump.
Trump stressed that ending the war quickly could pave the way for broader relations between Russia and the United States, particularly in trade and economic areas.
Ushakov said Trump wanted progress towards ending the war during his presidency and that Putin supported this position.
Ushakov also said Putin stressed during the call that Russia had no hostile intentions towards Europe.
He said Putin rejected claims that Russia posed a threat to European countries, maintaining that Moscow had no plans to launch aggression against Europe.
The phone call came after US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Moscow and Kyiv late last week.
According to the report, the two officials are seeking to revive stalled talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
