Afghan refugee issues to be discussed at oct. intl. meeting: Jamal

The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said in a statement that Minister Mullah Abdul Kabir met with Jamal to discuss the situation of Afghan refugees and multilateral engagement with host countries.

Jamal said a meeting is planned on the sidelines of an international gathering in Switzerland in October to discuss the challenges facing Afghan refugees and forced deportations.

He added that the UN refugee agency had reached an agreement with Iran to hold a trilateral meeting involving representatives of Iran, the United Nations and the Islamic Emirate. The meeting is expected to take place in Kabul in the near future.

Jamal said the United Nations had launched efforts to address the problems of Afghan refugees and provide assistance, and had prepared a plan to mobilize the necessary financial resources.

Abdul Kabir thanked the United Nations for its assistance to refugees in Afghanistan and said necessary support had been provided to returnees despite difficult circumstances.

He described trilateral and quadrilateral meetings on Afghan refugees as important and effective, saying the Islamic Emirate supports efforts to resolve their problems.

Abdul Kabir said several plans for Afghan refugees and returnees had been implemented and that capacity had been created to attract further assistance and cooperation.
