Afghan-American Senator Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for the First Time

Reuters reported that Wahab secured more than 53 percent of the vote in a special election for the U.S. House, defeating her Democratic opponent, Melissa Hernandez.

However, Wahab and Hernandez are expected to face each other again in the November election. The winner of the November election will hold California’s 14th Congressional District seat for a full two-year term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
